6th Mediterranean Chess Championship is going to be held in Antalya, Turkey from 10 to 18 January 2009 in Antalya. In the sixth edition, the field includes 7 Grandmasters and 10 International Masters with a total of 40 participants from 17 countries. For the first time in the history of the championship, three GMs from countries that are not member of the MCA are also going to be included, namely GM Tamaz Gelashvili and  GM Levon Aroshidze from Georgia, GM Mircea Parligras from Romenia,  GM Handzsar Odeev from Turkmenistan. The defending champions IM Darko Doric and WIM Ljilja Drjlevic will be seeking to defend their titles in Antalya. The championship is sponsored by a tourism organizastion of the Mediterrenean riviera named GATAB (Southern Antalya Municipalities Union) .
