The local players from Antalya, Serkan Köse and Bülent Erşahin drew against GM Essam El Gindy and the defending champion IM Darko Doric respectively. Köse, has his own history of upsetting GM Arkadij Naiditsch back in European Individual Championship 2004 after a brilliant winning combination.

The pendulum was decisively in favor of the Greek international master after Şanal's misplay.
