The local players from Antalya, Serkan Köse and Bülent Erşahin drew against GM Essam El Gindy and the defending champion IM Darko Doric respectively. Köse, has his own history of upsetting GM Arkadij Naiditsch back in European Individual Championship 2004 after a brilliant winning combination.

World Schools Champion Under 11 Vahap Şanal was very close to winning against IM Ioannis Georgaidis despite having a worse position initially.
