In the beginning round of the Mediterranean Championship the most of the top seeds were able to get the full point including the Turkish champion GM Mikhail Gurevich, GM Mircea Parligras and GM Levon Aroshidze but GM Tamaz Gelashvili had to be content with the draw after the complications.

Bülent Erşahin from the hometown drew against the defending champion IM Darko Doric.

Champion Under 11 Vahap Şanal was very close to winning against IM
Ioannis Georgaidis despite having a worse position initially. The
pendulum was decisively in favor of the Greek international master
after Şanal's misplay.
2008 NATO Champion FM Serkan Yeke was not able to grasp a win after a creative play by both parties.
