1. The Tournament
The 2nd Mediterranean Junior and Girls Chess Championships will be held from 19th August 2004 (arrival) to 28th August 2004 (departure) in Kozan, in the region of Adana, Turkey.
The ANAVARZA tournament is being sponsored by the KOZVAK Foundation (Kozan and Environment Promotion and Protection Foundation). The tournament will be held in the public school library which is 150m2 all carpeted and air-conditioned. A 24-hours ADSL internet connection will be provided in the school lab and 15 pcs will be available.
Prizes are being given by AKBANK and there will be a total of $3,000 in prizes and gifts. Winners of the First, Second and Third places in the Championships (Boys & Girls) will also be awarded trophies and Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals respectively.

2. Participants
Subject to the restriction regarding age, the following will be entitled to participate in the Championships as per the FIDE Rules under D.V.01.
a. The players placed 1-3 in the previous Mediterranean Boys and Girls U-20 Championships
b. Three players each for the Boys and Girls U-20 Championship nominated by each Mediterranean Federation as listed in the MCA statute
If a Federation wishes to have additional players participating, besides those qualified by the normal way and by personal right, it should apply to the Organizing Committee. A player can participate in the competition only after getting an official consent from the Organizing Federation.
3. Age Limit
According to FIDE regulations, only those born on or after 1st January 1984 are eligible for participating in the Championships.
4. Registration
The Registration Form/s shall be submitted to the General Secretary of the
Mediterranean Chess Association by e-mail (gdborg@nextgen.net.mt
or
gdborg@farsons.com) or via fax on (356)-2381-4155 by not later than 10th
August 2004. If participants submit the registration form after the deadline
they may have to pay for their accomodation.
The Chief Arbiter of the tournament will be Mr Nizar Elhaj from the Libyan Chess Federation.
5. Traveling Expenses and Airport Transfers
Traveling
expenses shall be covered by the participating Federations.

6. How to get to Adana
By Rail Apart from domestic services, there are also international rail connections. There are many trains to Europe, the Middle East, and countries to the north, with connections to the harbours in Mersin and Iskenderun, both of which have ferries. Adana’s railway station is 1 km. from the city centre. The main domestic routes are a daily service to Ankara (14 hours), several weekly to Gaziantep (3 hours) and several daily to Mersin (1 hour).
By Air There are daily flights to Istanbul and Ankara. International flights include Jedda (twice a week), plus weekly flights to Frankfurt-Dusseldorf, Munich via Ankara, and Koln via Istanbul (once a week). The airport is 3.5 km from the city centre and has a 140-vehicle parking lot.
All transportation from Adana to Kozan will be organized by the ETS Company and all delegations will be transferred from Adana to Kozan and back without any charge.
7. About Kozan
Anavarza is an antique Roman city. Kozan is situated inside this famous ancient city. It is surrounded by many castles and old Roman walls.

8. Board & Lodging
The participants will be provided with free board & lodging. Each Federation will be accorded free board and lodging to one coach. Each additional participant or each accompanying person should pay US$ 20 per day per head for sharing a double room plus three meals a day. All payments must be made in US Dollars to the Credit of the Turkish Chess Federation and must be settled before departure.
9. Entry Visa & Participant Details
All participants are requested to send one passport-size photo of their players and passport details to the MCA along with registration. This will facilitate transfer at the airport and at the Hotel. Please check with your Government or the Turkish Embassy in your country on the need or requirements for visas to Turkey.
10. Tournament Regulations
The
tournament will be held in accordance with FIDE regulations (D.V.01)
The events will be conducted according to the Swiss System, 9 rounds.
The time limit will be 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment per move. The games
will be played using the DGT clocks.

12. Unforseen Items
Any matter not mentioned in the present Regulations shall be decided by the MCA Council.
